A certified housing counselor at ClearPoint Credit Counseling Solutions* can help you work through the process of obtaining a reverse mortgage.
Why talk to ClearPoint?
What can I expect during my counseling session?
Our goal is to help you get answers to all of your questions and make sure you know the pros and cons of reverse mortgages and its alternatives. At the end of this session, you receive the legally-required certificate showing that you have completed this counseling. You’ll need to set aside about 90 minutes for the counseling.
When you call to schedule your session we will provide you with material to look over before and during the session. This documentation will help you fully understand your options, and how reverse mortgages work. We can send this information to you by regular mail or email.
We will also complete a budget review and a Benefits Check Up with you in person or by phone. These tools will help you make an informed decision, and find any additional funds and services that may be available to you.
What’s covered?
You’ll learn how reverse mortgages work, the implications of reverse mortgages, the appropriateness of a reverse mortgage for your personal financial situation and possible alternatives.
Why is counseling required?
As the cost of the loan can be high and a reverse mortgage may affect your estate; homeowners must understand the options and consequences to protect themselves. Because of this, the federal government requires that anyone seeking a reverse mortgage must obtain a certificate from a HUD-approved housing counselor. ClearPoint supplies our clients with a Home Equity Conversion Certificate (HECM) required by federal law to close a reverse mortgage.
Can I get counseled over the phone? In-person?
Yes. We offer counseling either over the phone or in-person, whatever is most convenient for you. You can also bring a friend or family member if you would like to bring someone with you for the counseling session.
How do I set up an appointment?
Call toll-free to 877.412.2227 (CCCS) to schedule an appointment with an experienced housing counselor in-person at a branch office or by phone.
